After my recent bike crash, I started taking the NSAID ( Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) naproxen sodium. Mind you, I'm not taking this stuff daily but I have been using it on occasion to deal with back pain. Turns out that this NSAIDs can be very dangerous particularly when one is dehydrated.
After reading the accounts of people that have raced or trained while taking NSAIDs, I think I'll avoid them in the future. Of course there are seemingly reputable folks that say NSAIDs are safe to take during endurance events.
I wonder if the use of NSAIDs, coupled w/ dehydration, had anything to do with the elevated creatinine levels (1.5 MG/DL) that showed up in my most recent blood work? Any nephrologists out there care to chime in?
Just to be on the safe side I'm starting a regiment of essential Fatty Acids & Glucosamine.
